ANTI-RUST TREATMENT KIT REPAIRS AND REGENERATES TANK MOTORCYCLES AND CARS
Kit for tanks up to 20/25 litres
Beware of tanks that pass 20 liters because the internal shape can increase the internal area beyond that of 25 liters. Area and liters are two different things. Often a 22 liter tank requires a 28 or 30 liter kit which does not exist therefore it is advisable to take the large one in order not to be left with uncovered areas.
This treatment is similar to Tankerite which is manufactured by another company but is not Tankerite
WHAT DOES IT CONTAIN?
1 Can of A-based component
1 Jar of component B catalyst in proportion (so if you see the bottle half full it is normal because we give you the right amount to add to component A)
1 150ml concentrated rust remover acid which must be diluted before pouring it into the tank with 600ml of water.
1 Instructions for use sheet (if you don't understand something you can send an email with your telephone number and you will be contacted)
HOW TO USE THE TANK ANTI-RUST TREATMENT KIT?
PHASE 1 INITIAL CLEANING
1 Drain all petrol from the tank. When we say all, it means all, no residue should remain.
2 If you can't remove it all, you have two possibilities. Leave the tank open until all the petrol evaporates, or put some pink alcohol in the tank, shake, empty and finally blow off the residue with compressed air. If there is some alcohol left it doesn't matter as it will go away with the acid rust remover treatment. So don't worry.
3 Now you need to check how bad the rust condition is inside your tank. To do this, just illuminate the interior a little with a light and see if the oxidation is ENCRUSTED, NORMAL, LITTLE. Based on this condition we will decide how to dilute the acid and how much to use to clean the surfaces and make them ready for treatment.
STEP 2 REMOVE RUST OR CLEAN PLASTIC TANK
FOR PLASTIC TANK
We empty the petrol and clean with two liters of pink alcohol or pure acetone by simply shaking and emptying (you can buy it in any hardware store and it doesn't have to be the one for women's nails). After cleaning, blow with compressed air or a heat gun, make sure that the tank is dry and then start the sealing phase with Tankerize.
FOR METAL TANK
Based on how much rust we have in the tank, we decide how much acid to use, how much we have to buy and how much we have to dilute it.
The premise is that we supply a bottle of very powerful concentrated acid in the kit. Which must be diluted and which is easily enough to remove the rust of average conditions which is that of most motorcycle tanks. However if the rust is encrusted then one bottle may not be enough and therefore it will be good to buy another one. This is because the anti-rust treatment must be performed several times and not just once.
IF THE TANK HAS LITTLE OR MEDIUM RUST
Medium means that when we look inside the rust is not caked in pieces but has a brown or yellowish patina but we do not see the pieces of rust
In this case we pour all the contents of the bottle into a plastic or glass jug (the acid only attacks the metal and the rust) then we fill the vial 4 more times with tap water and pour it into the jug. Since the bottle measures 150ml we will have the perfect measure of 150ml of acid plus 600ml of water
We mix and pour into the tank.
IF THE TANK HAS ENRUSTED RUST
First of all, it is advisable to buy an extra bottle so you are sure you have enough to be able to repeat the treatment if only once is not enough.
You can see why there are plaques and pieces of rust. In this case, also evaluate whether it is not the case to buy a new tank or have it unsoldered and restored by a professional in the sector.
In this case we pour the entire contents of the bottle into a plastic or glass jug, fill the acid bottle twice with tap water and pour into the tank. In this way the acid will be more concentrated and therefore more powerful.
If you have bought two bottles you can also dilute the acid in the normal way with the ratio one bottle of acid and 4 of water, the important thing is to let the acid remain in the tank for at least 30/40 minutes on each side of the tank so that can work deeply.
HOW LONG SHOULD I LEAVE THE ACID IN THE TANK?
As previously mentioned, the acid must remain inside the tank for at least 30/40 minutes on each side. Only in this way will you be sure of the best result
When you have completed the cycle you must empty the tank of all residues, pour plenty of alcohol or actone inside and check the condition of the walls.
If you are satisfied, go to the second phase, otherwise you can filter the acid from the residues with a bodywork filter and put it back in the tank or use a new bottle to have maximum strength and finish removing the residual rust.
Remember that if you reuse the acid it will not have the strength of the first time, as some of its power was used up with the first treatment.
REMOVE ACID AND PREPARE FOR TANKERIZING
The first thing to know is that once the acid has been removed from the tank you cannot leave it in the air but you will have to carry out the tank anti-rust treatment immediately. So you don't need to ask if you can do it the next day or in the afternoon. The treatment must be done in a row.
Remove the acid by emptying the tank and proceed as follows:
1 pour a liter or two of pink alcohol or pure acetone into the tank (both are fine, use what you have available)
2 Shake well so that it can combine with the remaining water
3 empty completely
4 use a hair dryer or heat gun or compressed air to evaporate the alcohol or acetone which will carry away the residual moisture with it
Only in this way will you be sure that the water and humidity have been eliminated
NOTE: do not leave the tank to air or rust will start to form again. You must pour the Tankerize into the tank immediately after drying the moisture.
If you don't do this step well after a few days or some time, the Tankerize could start to detach from the walls or it could form bubbles detaching from the metal.
TANKERIZING THE TANK
We have reached the most important stage.
We prepare the Tankerize by mixing the small bottle of the transparent catalyst by pouring it all into the large jar of the base.
We mix thoroughly for one or two minutes and then let it rest for 20 minutes otherwise the tankerize may not dry well, it is not an obligation but a suggestion especially when we are in winter in cold and humid places.
In the juncture in which we are waiting, we heat the metal of the tank to maintain a good temperature even on the object. It is not an obligation but a suggestion that sometimes changes things.
Before pouring Tankerize into the tank, remember to protect the threaded holes by inserting screws inside them. These must be unscrewed and removed approximately 12 hours after applying Tankerize. The reason why they have to be removed after 12 hours is because if it were done before the Tankerize still liquid could flow into the thread and prevent you from screwing the taps back on, if instead 24 or 48 hours were to pass the Tankerize would become too hard and therefore the risk is that it could crack at the junction between the screw and the bottom of the tank. If this were to happen, a part of the metal could be exposed to petrol and therefore rust would form again with a consequent detachment of the protection from the metal.
We pour everything into the tank
We close the hole and begin to turn the tank by rotating it slowly
We open the tank cap from time to time and check that the Tankerize covers all the surfaces evenly
When we have a colored and homogeneous surface we stop for an hour
After an hour if there is still a good amount of Tankerize in the tank we can swirl again to create a thicker layer.
If we are not interested or if there is little Tankerize left, we can empty the tank and let it dry, taking care to remove the cap and open all the holes so that a lot of air and oxygen can pass which will help hardening.
HOW LONG DOES TANKERIZE TAKE TO DRY? AFTER HOW MANY DAYS CAN I PUT FUEL INTO THE TANK?
Dry does not mean it is ready for chemical contact with gasoline.
So we recommend waiting 5/6 days in summer and 6/10 in winter.
Remember that humidity and ambient temperature greatly affect the drying time of this product
CAN I HEAT THE TANK TO DRY IT FIRST?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Do not put the tank in the bodywork oven at high temperatures as you would with 2K paints. The high temperature would have a disastrous effect on the Tankerize ceramic, it would make it liquefy and all flow towards the bottom of the tank.
It is much more important to have a constant ambient temperature between 18 and 24 degrees and the same on the metal of the tank which guarantees correct drying in regular times.
